Sometimes learning hurts and it’s for the better!

As a trainer, when educating, I am changing personality more often than I change socks. I consider you have to. When it’s time for fun, you should be an enter-trainer, when things are serious, you should be like the thunder – loud, clear and memorable. I have always believed “earthquakes” teach best. But there is this new wave of wanna-be-trainer who keep saying the learner has to be kept happy. NO! The learning journey has its up and downs, happy and sad times. In order to be memorable it has to bring in some emotions, both positive and negative. For example: if something frustrates you and you have a good coach alongside, you will learn to get over it and next time you will do it better and this will make you happy in the end, and the learning memorable.

Well, these new wanna-bes keep using “smile-sheets” instead of feedback forms. They want to know ONLY “if it was fun”, “if you felt ok”, “if you enjoyed the ride”. Guys, the participants are not at the circus! They need to learn something, too. Anyways, why rattle more, when I found the evidence.

Here it is: <<“For years now we’ve assumed the learner experience is key to measuring the effectiveness of training. Hence the inflated importancegiven to “enter-trainers”. But learning is not just for the learners. Most of those who take part in work-based learning are doing it for the benefit of their employers. And rightly so, since they usually foot the bill. But surely a happy learner is a more motivated learner, and so more likely to transfer their learning? Perhaps, but not necessarily. Meta-study research by Sitzmann on 68,245 trainees showed that variance in learner satisfaction accounted for:

• 2% of the variance in factual knowledge
• 5% of the variance in skill-based knowledge
• 0% of the variance in training transfer >>

For high achieving women

Sometimes no matter how powerful and strong a woman you are, you need someone close to hug you and tell you everything will be ok. And if there is no one, maybe you panic, maybe you cry, maybe you crash and burn everything around you, or you just feel like there is no hope and could just die cause there is no meaning to life. It could be depression, exhaustion, you could try to self-diagnose as much as you want, but what you actually need, as a strong and powerful woman that you are, is sleep. Tons of sleep, or maybe just a couple of hours or a ten minute blink. Just sleep. Everything will be alright when you wake up.
You don’t need to self-talk yourself to getting better at giving your best, you already are an achiever. This is what brought you here. Saying that anything you do is not good enough, pushing yourself to your limit when you have reached the limit a while back is not the right Pavlov trick anymore. You need to be gentler with yourself. Understand that results aren’t everything, that YOU are everything. When you do the real “month’s closing”, YOU is all you really have.

Body maintenance and recalibration

The human body is a complex machine. Because we are so used to “having” it we tend to forget what a big deal it is to have such a “possession”. Like any machine it needs some breaks to cool down and tending to. Whether you compare it to a racing car or a hoover craft or maybe something that doesn’t move that much, let’s say a laser welding industrial machine, it needs a pit-stop, a maintenance break at a certain time interval. But how many of us actually take this break? And how often? I am seeing people around me everyday having no clue when their batteries are about to drain and it’s obvious they are running on fumes and about to break down. Continue Reading..

The train people

The train people are those who are daring enough to open their eyes and see the trains that pass through “their station” and jump from train to train to train until they find the one that was meant for them. During this journey many questions arise and they have to be very special people. I wonder what are the attributes of the train people?

1. What happens when you know you can do whatever you want and you can have whatever you wish for?

2. What happens when all you believe in is yourself and only yourself, and this person never disappoints you?

3. What happens when you realize that the dream of accumulating knowledge is useless because even if you are the happiest of all learners, ready to learn at each and every step you make, when you realize that all this will never end, just when you die? Should you strive to reach for such a dream as accumulating knowledge until you die or should you stop and figure out some other dream? Continue Reading..

Keywords for my 2013

Before making any plans for 2014, you should “clean the plate” for 2013.

Was about:
1) Intentionality – i chose to start being a „delivery manager” in Scoala de Valori. I committed to not dropping any balls in any of the projects the organization had to implement. It was wild, it was tiring, it was awesome. I decided to continue doing it, get better at it and make „pretentiousness” a culture for the entire team.

2) Uncluttering – we have our own house. I have been dreaming of this and rehearsing in my head how it will be and how it will feel, and how it will look, since a long time ago. Now it’s done. We did it. We have it. To celebrate it, we threw away and gave away lots of stuff, starting fresh can’t be bad, no matter if you move in a new place or you are just doing the annual cleaning of your closet. A fresh start

I have decided to start a new blog on this website. Even though I did not delete the old one yet, I will probably delete it when I find my way around here and will not be attached anymore to the “dareberries” name 🙂

I chose to write here twice a month and hope to manage to do that. It will be a mix of personal stuff and professional things which probably wouldn’t be agreed to by a brand manager, but I am not so interested in a brand manager’s opinion. I am planning to write about my new adventure of moving to a new house, going to the next level in my business and in Scoala de Valori and whatever the future reserves me 🙂
